Women Beware
The former "Boys' Town" is still an old boys' club. It's a great spot for guys, but women, especially lesbians, are unwelcome by many of the patrons and some of the staff. They won't throw you out, but house policies and attitudes enable biased treatment.
Would put Skip It but there isn't anywhere else:(
It seems to me that as Calgary grows it get's more boring!! This place is for straight girls and their twink boyfriends...the music is as someone else put it...THUMP, THUMP...boring. Just goes to show how boring and conservative Calgary really is! I miss Boyztown and Detours...they had a GAY character and catered to GAY clients!! Calgary has to pull it together and open more clubs and bars where the 100,000 or so GLBT community can meet!
Better than the other Calgary choices, but just OK
I have been there a few times.Lots of guys in their teens and twenties.Straight women with gay guys.Music is disappointing for the most part.Lots of electronic thump thump. What the Calgary clubs are missing is "character"!They just want to make money and no real thought goes into any of it.Its too bad, because alot of people are looking for places to go to have fun,and this city lacks imaginative clubs.Same old shit.
Kudos!!!
Been in Calgary last March-April 2008 and I must say Twisted Element is the place I've always wanted to go to after work. Kudos to the owners!!!I also met a guy there but I forgot his name already..hahaha..
Meh.
Drinks are good and nicely priced. Space is nice. As far as a place to dance - well, it is pretty much agreed that the music is horrendous. Grease remixes? Boney M? Please. Patrons are mostly college kids and straight women. Would like to see guest DJ's, better music and more men in the crowd. Alas, the mature gay men go to Vancouver to party and leave the local scene to the kids. Very disappointing.
